Awareness Programs
Youth Forums on Organ and Tissue Donation

Guest Speaker Gene Williams with students from Fair Park High School
The Legacy Donor Foundation holds annual Youth Forums on Organ and Tissue Donation throughout the state. Students and teachers from area high schools participate in these free, half-day programs to learn about organ, eye and tissue donation. These programs:
- Raise awareness and provide accurate information on organ donation and transplantation.
- Encourage discussion about donation among teens and between teens and their families.
- Better equip educators with resources and tools to teach about this life-saving subject.
Doctors, educators and speakers who have personal experience with donation or transplantation introduce participants to the subject of organ, eye and tissue donation. Those in attendance learn that organ failure can affect anyone at anytime, regardless of age, race or gender.
Teenagers stand on the cusp of many major decisions. One of these comes at the Office of Motor Vehicles when teens get their first license. Most do not know how to answer the question “Do you want to be an organ donor?” The Youth Forums on Organ and Tissue Donation prepare teens to make informed decisions, while understanding that whatever decision they make, they need to include their family in the process.
Our Fall 2008 Youth Forums were held:
- October 28, 2008 New Orleans
- November 11, 2008 Shreveport
